Over 30 students joined tens of thousands of students world-wide walking to school. Walking or biking to the bus stop or walking the last 1/2 mile to school are great ways to promote a cleaner environment and happier, healthier students. Many thanks to the Hemlock Ridge Condo Association, Town of Killington, Casey's Caboose, KES School Board, parents, staff and most of all the students for supporting this celebration! Thanks also to Beth and Peter Hike and the students for creating the artistic Walking School Bus!
The KEEPERS bought back Halloween treats for $1.00 per pound. All candy bought back was donated to our troops overseas who weren't able to Trick or Treat. Each student who sold their candy to the KEEPERS was entered in a drawing for 2 tickets to the Killington Tubing Park for the 2013-14 winter season.
KES had a very successful fall bottle drive. All who donated bottles were entered in a drawing for breakfast at the Sunup Bakery to show our appreciation. Many thanks to the over 30 families who donated bottles, the efficient student and parent volunteers who did the sorting and Green Mountain Bottle Redemption for providing the supplies and for picking up all the bags.
Again this year the KEEPERS held a ski clothing swap in the KES cafeteria during Parent/Teacher conferences. Families brought gently used children's ski clothing to KES before the swap. Articles remaining at the end of the day were donated to area schools and Rutland charities. Students and parents from all area schools also were invited to attend.
This year KES was selected to receive some of the proceeds from the 5K Turkey Trot. The KEEPERS are encouraging as many KES families to participate as possible. We are very thankful to Kaise Muson for this opportunity to fundraise and promote fitness. $20 pre-registration fee increases to $25 on race day. Race starts at 9:30am from Jax.
