Killington Elementary School Prekindergarten Program
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00-3:00, with after school until 5:00pm Ages: 3 and 4 year olds, and 5 year olds not yet eligible to enroll in Kindergarten
Morning PreK is led by a certified early childhood educator and includes a variety of rich, developmentally-appropriate learning opportunities aligned with the Vermont Early Learning Standards. Students participate in community building activities, literacy and math centers, and indoor and outdoor play. Students attending the Morning PreK session can bring or purchase a morning snack and/or lunch at school. PreK students can also participate in free/reduced lunch if eligible. For WCUD residents, the Morning PreK hours are covered by Universal PreK funding at no cost to families. If you are not a WCUD resident, please contact your local district for information on how to access Universal PreK funding for 10 hours. The other 10 hours will be covered by WCUD.
Our Extended Day program, also led by our Morning PreK teaching staff, includes additional time for enrichment and play, as well as a rest period and afternoon snack time. Students may then transition to the After School program where care continues through 5:00pm.
Our plan to offer a program five days per week for the school year is grounded in research around early childhood education; we believe students benefit from consistent routines, continuity of curriculum and learning activities, and a strong classroom community. Our early childhood educators are best able to provide a vibrant and meaningful learning environment when they can plan directly for a regular group of students. To this end, we will not be enrolling students on a drop-in basis or only on certain days.
